HSS eAcademy Accreditation
The mission of HSS eAcademy is to be the most trusted educator in the area of musculoskeletal health. We believe it is our responsibility to contribute to the continuous learning of physicians and healthcare professionals, thereby improving physician performance and enhancing quality patient care. To that end, Hospital for Special Surgery maintains accreditation with the ACCME, New York State Education Department, and the BOC, further solidifying the quality and integrity of our professional education activities.
Continuing Education for Physicians and Health Care Professionals
Hospital for Special Surgery has been awarded accreditation with commendation for six years by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. Accreditation with commendation is the highest level of accreditation offered by the ACCME and is awarded after a rigorous, multi-level evaluation process for evaluating institutions' CME programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations. These organizations of medicine in the US are the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the US, Inc.
The ACCME defines CME as educational activities that serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public. These activities are also free of commercial bias and based on valid content. The end result of CME activities is the improvement of public health and patient care.
